Environmental Science is a first-year entry program and is all a major. Beginning in your second year you will have the option of specializing in one of two areas;
Combine your passion for the environment and sustainable future with your strength in the sciences. A first year of foundational sciences will prepare you to continue your studies in either of two distinct areas - ecology or geoscience.
Students in Environmental Sciences have a common set of courses in their first year. At the end of the first-year you will be equally prepared to move into either of the Ecology or Geoscience specialization.

After completing this set of courses you can continue in the specialization your identified on your application or transfer to the other one.
What is co-op?
The Environmental Science program is designed to allow you to participate in the co-op option. In the second term of your second year, you are able to begin a co-op job. You will complete 4 months of co-op, then return for 4 months of school. This pattern will continue during the rest of your stay at Waterloo.
