2011

Welcome to Andrea Cristina Pio Santos from Brazil who has joined the group as a PhD student through the Department of Chemistry.

Welcome back and congratulations to Maria Jimena Loureiro who recently completed a BSc in Nanotechnology Engineering from UW and has re-joined the group as a research assistant for the summer.

Welcome to Vanessa Roberta Rodrigues da Cunha who has joined the group as a visiting scholar from Sao Paulo University in Brazil.

Congratulations to Constanze who has been the recipient of the Wilhelm Macke Mobility Scholarship for research activities as postdoctoral fellow.

Congratulations to Chilbert who was recently awarded the Donald J. & Kathleen D. McDougall Graduate Scholarship for academic merit.

Welcome to Constanze Lamprecht who recently completed her PhD in Physics from the Johannes Kepler University of Linz. She has joined the group as a postdoctoral fellow.

2010

Sattar Taheri-Araghi recently completed his PhD in Physics from the University of Waterloo. He has joined the group as postdoctoral fellow working on theoretical modelling of DNA-gemini surfactant complexes. He is jointly supervised by Dr. M. Kohandel and Dr. S. Sivaloganathan from Applied Math at UW.

Torin Huzil has a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Alberta and has worked extensively on the design of novel chemotherapeutic agents. His current research as a postdoctoral fellow with the Foldvari group involves simulation of membrane bilayer interactions with permeation enhancers. He is also jointly supervised with the faculty of Applied Math.

Rania Farghaly has a BSc in Pharmacy from the University of Assiut in Egypt. She has joined the group as a Masters student, working on the transdermal delivery of macromolecules.

Samih Alqawlaq has a BSc in Biomedical Sciences from UW. He has joined the group as a Masters student, and he is working on non-invasive targeted gene delivery for optic nerve regeneration in glaucoma.

Chilbert Dong, who has been with the group for over two years has started a Masters degree in Pharmacy. He is working on tracking the intracellular fate of nanoparticles.

Maria Jimena Loureiro is an undergraduate student in UW's Nanotechnology Engineering program. She is a co-op student for an 8-month term.

Evi Saliaj has also returned to the group as a co-op student for an 8-month term.

2009

Mahmoud El Sabahy has a BSc in Pharmacy from the University of Assiut in Egypt, and an MSc and PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Montreal. He has joined the group as postdoctoral fellow studying non-invasive gene delivery methods.

Marina Ivanova has a BSc in Biochemistry from UW and an MSc in Biophysics from the University of Guelph. She has joined the group as an administrative research assistant.

Lois Chung recently completed a BMSc Honours Specialization in Medical Sciences from the University of Western Ontario. She has been accepted into UW's School of Pharmacy as an undergraduate student and will begin in January 2010. She has joined Dr. Foldvari's group as a lab assistant.

Chilbert Dong recently graduated with a BSc in Biochemistry from UW. He was a co-op student for two terms in Dr. Foldvari's group in 2008 and has rejoined this fall as a lab assistant.

James Maxwell is a high school student at St. John's Kilmarnock in Breslau. He has joined the group as a lab assistant.

Evi Saliaj is an undergraduate in UW's Biotechnology and Economics program. She was a co-op student for two terms in Dr. Foldvari's lab in 2008 and has rejoined this fall as a lab assistant.

Romi Strub is a second-year independent studies student at UW. His interests span mathematics, computer science, biology and nanotechnology. He has joined the group to assist with molecular-modelling studies.

Cecillia Wong is an undergraduate student in UW's Nanotechnology Program. She has joined the research group as a lab assistant.

2008

Damian Baboolal is an international student from Trinidad and Tobago pursuing undergraduate studies in actuarial science.

Chilbert Dong is from Oakville, Ontario, and is in his third year of studies in the Department of Biology.

Evi Saliaj moved to Canada from Albania and is currently completing her undergraduate degree in Biotechnology/Economics.

2007

Andrea Spires has an HBSc in Biochemistry from the University of Waterloo. Andrea keeps the lab and office humming in her capacity as an administrative research assistant.

Shadi Moghadam has a PhD in Pharmaceutics from the University of Tehran. She joined the research group as a postdoctoral fellow and will investigate non-invasive drug-delivery mechanisms. Shadi is currently a postdoctoral candidate at the University of Toronto.

Joe Petrik has an MSc in Zoology and an MA in Journalism from the University of Western Ontario. He is a research associate (scientific writing and communications) and provides communications, editorial and research support to the group.

Nishi Gupta is a fourth-year student in UW Department of Biology. She is conducting research for her honours project on transfection efficiency in mammalian cell culture.
